Doctors warn against sacrificing safety for “bargain” liposuction
An American cosmetic surgeon is warning patients not to seek out “bargain” liposuction to save money on the popular cosmetic surgery procedure.
Dr. Braden Stridde says that low-cost liposuction can carry significant risks and that safety should always be a top priority for all cosmetic surgeries.
“Patients need to be aware of the danger of focusing solely on financial cost at the expense of safety,” Stridde said. “I have seen an increasing number of patients who want corrections for procedures that led to unsatisfying results because they had this misconception that ‘liposuction is liposuction’.
“Too many people find out the hard way that a surgeon’s qualifications and techniques really matter,” he added.
Seattle-based Stridde recommends that liposuction patients look for certified surgeons that are using the most current and up-to-date techniques.
“In the end, less expensive procedures may lead to unsatisfying results,” he said.
Stridde adds that it’s important for all patients to “do their homework” before deciding to undergo liposuction. He recommends visiting various surgeons so that the patient can decide on the best value for their operation and unique goals.
“The bottom line is safety and results,” said Stridde. “Patients turn to discount options because they hope they will get more for their money, but discount plastic surgery is not a bargain.”
Stridde’s call for liposuction patients to avoid bargain deals echoes that of other cosmetic surgeons who have seen patients compromise quality for cost during the economic downturn.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has also released a warning to consumers urging them to consider quality for all cosmetic procedures, not just liposuction.
