UK cosmetic surgery patients seek to emulate stars

Cosmetic surgery patients in the UK are turning towards their favourite celebrities for inspiration when it comes to choosing the best surgery procedures.

A recent survey conducted by the British Association of Aesthetic Surgeons (BAAPS) found that cosmetic surgery clients are increasingly modeling their plastic surgery requests after celebrities they admire.

The report said that patients are turning up to consultations with photos of celebrities they wish to look like. Popular celebrity-inspired cosmetic surgery trends include rhinoplasty, breast enlargement and liposuction.

Some surgeons have warned their patients against attempting to replicate celebrity features, letting them know that it is unrealistic to expect to emerge from cosmetic surgery looking just like their favourite celebrity. Patients are still required to consult with cosmetic surgeons, who will explain the risks and side effects of cosmetic surgery procedures.

The report from the BAAPS follows a similar study released in December, which found that most cosmetic surgery patients who idolized celebrities were modeling their choices off a group of well-known celebrity faces.

Most women wished to model their face and bust on celebrities like Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie. In addition, men overwhelmingly favoured Brad Pitt’s features and Pitt and Jolie appeared on the list more often than any other celebrity.

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery recently conducted a similar study which found that the majority of women wished to have breast implants to emulate Pamela Anderson or Britney Spears’ chest.

The BAAPS recommends that all possible cosmetic surgery patients seek an accredited cosmetic surgeon that will discuss realistic cosmetic surgery goals with them before the procedure.
