When addictions affect health and happiness

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Practically everyone I know has an addiction of one kind or another but most of us are lucky enough to find ourselves wanting to do things that aren’t actually that bad for us. For example, my flatmate can’t do anything until she has her morning coffee while I just don’t feel right until I’ve had a read of all the latest celebrity gossip. Unfortunately, that’s not the case for everyone. (more…)

Botox on the brain - not literally!

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Botox is one of the most popular treatments amongst me and my friends - and with the rising rates of users around the world it seems we’re not the only ones. So imagine my shock when I saw a headline in The Daily Mail yesterday that claimed that it was an anti-wrinkle treatment linked to deaths! I almost choked on my latte. (more…)

Cosmetic surgery: credit crunch style

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Like a lot of people, the credit crunch has really forced me to change certain aspects of my lifestyle. For instance, instead of turning on the heating in my flat when I’m a bit cold, I put on an extra jumper instead. The dusty old bike sitting in the shed has made a definite comeback on my local streets - leg power is cheaper than petrol (and better for me)! (more…)

His ‘n’ her cosmetic surgery: who’s a fan?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

This week’s news that ‘cosmetic surgery couples’ are on the rise has got me thinking: I wonder how many celebrities have encouraged their partners to undergo a procedure to improve their appearance? One obvious example springs to mind immediately - David and Victoria Beckham of course! The stylish pair have always hit the headlines with their “his ‘n’ her” ventures, their new perfume being just one example. And although neither of them have ever officially confirmed having had cosmetic surgery done, it’s widely speculated that not only has Posh had a breast enlargement, but both her and David are likely regular users of Botox. Botox Britain - changing the habits of a generation

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Here’s a searching question for all you beauty queens: how old were you when you first started wearing make-up? I begged my mum to buy me some eyeliner when I was eight but it wasn’t until I was 14 that she let me dabble with her make-up. She let me buy my own soon enough after that- sorry for ruining all your favourite lipsticks mum. I can understand why she tried to hold me off now; after all, she just wanted me to enjoy being a kid for as long as possible. But, as I continued to long for that first splash of black (or purple!) on my lids or that subtle hint of rouge on my cheekbones, the mesmerising thought of wearing make-up and “being grown-up” never left my mind. Is Kerry Katona hitting crisis point?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Poor Kerry Katona! Just days after announcing how happy she was with her recent cosmetic surgeries, the former Atomic Kitten singer and reality television star slurred her way through a TV appearance, sparking rumours that she’s spiralling out of control.

Outspoken Kerry was having trouble saying anything on ITV’s This Morning yesterday and she stumbled over her words so badly that Philip Schofield asked her what was wrong, adding that she didn’t seem right. Now people are claiming that the star, who suffers from a bipolar disorder, had spent the night before downing shots of Sambuca backstage on ITV’s Celebrity Juice. (more…)

Sparky slights from Sharon Osbourne

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Feisty Sharon Osbourne is one of those stars that you can’t help being fascinated by - especially as she’s certainly not one to keep her opinions to herself.  Last week she struck out at celebrities that lie about any cosmetic surgery they’ve had done, going to far as to call them “lying b**tches”!

In a fit of vitriol, the America’s Got Talent judge slammed celebs that have procedures done but aren’t honest about it - and to tell you the truth I’ve got her back on this one. Like she says, why lie about it? There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make sure you look as good as you possibly can. Australian star Nicole Kidman came under fire in particular as Sharon pondered why the actress denied using Botox or other non surgical wrinkle relaxants when she was convinced that the fair skinned beauty does. What’s a facelift between friends?

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

I read something that really caught my attention in the Daily Mail yesterday - journalist Kate Mulvey wrote a really interesting article about her experiences after receiving a facelift and the views people take on cosmetic surgery in general. (more…)

Facing up to the truth

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

A few weeks ago, TV star Leslie Ash presented a documentary about non surgical cosmetic procedures called Face to Face. Not only was it an entertaining show, but it actually highlighted some important issues. Basically, Leslie investigated the number of people who could say that they were qualified to administer treatments like dermal fillers with very little training. (more…)

Posh Spice prevails

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

When the Spice Girls first exploded onto the music scene, I have to say I never thought it would be Posh Spice that would be most successful at withstanding the tests of time. Whatever you think of the self proclaimed fashionista you can’t deny that out of all the girls she has the highest profile - how much of that has to do with her husband is debatable. (more…)
