Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams to talk Botox as part of women’s charity campaign

Ugly Betty star Vanessa Williams has teamed up not-for-profit company Dress for Success and Botox-maker Allergan in order to offer career advice to disadvantaged women in the workplace.

The charity campaign, Express Success, aims to empower women in the current job market and Williams attended the launch of the drive in New York City this week. The actress and singer took part in several activities on the day, including a race to dress mannequins in clothes donated to the cause. (more…)

Many go under the knife to avoid “appearance-based rejection”

New research has revealed that men and women who fear “appearance-based rejection” are more likely to express an interest in cosmetic surgery.

The study, which appears in the June issue of Body Image, focused on the role of appearance-based rejection sensitively - meaning the tendency of certain people to expect rejection based on one’s appearance, rather than other factors. (more…)

UAE joins worldwide rise in male cosmetic surgery

The United Arab Emirates is the latest region to join the trend of increasing instances of male cosmetic surgery.

Like the UK and the USA, more and more men in the UAE are turning to cosmetic surgery to change aspects of their appearance with which they are unhappy. According to the Khaleej Times, cosmetologists are reporting that as many as 20 per cent of people undergoing cosmetic surgery procedures are men, a number far higher than the global average of 12 per cent. NHS releases cosmetic surgery figures

New figures have revealed the number of people undergoing cosmetic surgery through the NHS in London.

According to the Press Association, 471 patients in England’s capital city have undergone liposuction in the last year, costing the National Health Service £5.7 million. The figures from the NHS Information centre also showed that more than 1,700 people had had nose jobs, tummy tucks and breast reductions on the service. (more…)
